August 26, 2009

Last post I mentioned that we would be using this blog more for studio information than session previews but I’m a little slow on the blog set up this week and so here’s a preview for you anyway. I couldn’t help myself.

She is a beautiful baby with super cool parents and an adorable (and sweet) big sister.

It’s always exciting for a toddler to hold their new baby brother or sister. Exciting for the parents, I mean. All that wonder — will they fling the baby to the floor like a doll? Not usually but it’s good to be ready nonetheless :-)

I'm a big sister now!

Now we can’t leave out the big sister. She’s a trouper. She went to a birthday party earlier in the day and she still had all kinds of smiles left for the photo session. Don’t you just want to eat her up she’s so beautiful?

Thanks for coming in you guys. I can’t wait to show you all the others.

* Family Portraits *

August 23, 2009

I’ve been raving about these new frames for a while now but I just got some new samples in to share. The reason I went ahead and got some new samples was that we actually took our family portraits this summer. So, for the first time in 4 years I was prepared for the request from preschool for a family photo. But that’s another topic.

So if you are the type of person who likes to order what the waitress recommends in a restaurant then you’ll be happy to know that this is what I (Amy) ordered for myself for our family portrait.

These frames are from a rad frame company called Wild Sorbet. They are each custom made to order and I think that the best word to describe them is whimsical. These 3 samples are really the tip of the iceberg for what they offer. We have a set of their colors to show you and a catalog of things that they’ve put together which does a better job of showcasing their options than I ever could.

Two of these are now on display in the studio. To see the third you’ll need to come to my home where it’s on display in my living room.

These frames take 6-8 weeks to order so if you’d like one for yourself (or for a gift) you’ll want to place your order in September.

They even have a holiday set of corners and a frame with pegs on it (to hang stockings). It’s super cute. Ask us about it. We have a photo but can’t figure out how to post it here.

August 18, 2009

I’m back from vacation. I think that things ran smoothly while I was gone frolicking in the northeast with my kiddos. Thanks to Marcy.

I always head off to vacation with a big to do list but without my camera bag to let my photography engine recharge. However, given the nature of the remoteness of my destination and the demandingness of being a parent on vacation I usually get nothing done except the recharging part.  This year was no exception. In fact at one point I was so totally unplugged that I thought it was Sunday and it was really Monday – all day.

While I leave my camera bag at home I do take a little point and shoot on vacation. However, this year the p&s was an early casualty of the road trip. This is a great story. We started our journey on the Auto Train which is an Amtrack Train that runs from Sanford, FL (near Orlando) to Lorton, VA (near Washington DC). My kids loved spending the night on the train and it was a fun experience. Sleeping was a bit challenging but perhaps no more than in a hotel. When we packed up in the morning I couldn’t locate the little point and shoot. I figured that it would turn up when we unpacked everything from the car. But I was wrong. So, I thought that the camera was lost.

Lo and behold 2 weeks later when we were on the drive back home we got a phone call from Amtrack. They had found the camera squished behind the folding bed. It was damaged but the card was still good so the agent, helper (I’m not sure what this fantastic employees title might be … perhaps hero) took the card home – looked at the images figured out who we were and tracked us down. They Fedexed the camera back to me yesterday.

Isn’t that AWESOME. My husband took the call and so I didn’t get to personally thank the person who went to all this work for us. But I am very thankful.

When I get the card back I’ll share some images of the auto train with everybody.

This leads me into another item of news. This blog — the infamous Jady Blog is going through a transition. Marcy and I wil all have personal blogs to feature our recent work and highlight recent sessions. This main blog will shift to being a mix of the two along with news and updates from the studio.

You can find Marcy’s blog up and running here. I’ll get mine up and running this week and that’s where I’ll show the Auto train images.

Until later – A
