I forget who said it but maybe Avedon or perhaps it was said to him. I really don’t remember. But the quote goes something like, “Always be sure to put your lights away. After all you wouldn’t want your first image of tomorrow to look like your last image from today.” It’s good advice I think. So this weekend the lights are all coming down and they’re moving to a new home. That’s right it’s finally happening the studio is moving. Not far but to a new home nonetheless.

So, if you have trouble reaching me over the weekend and at the beginning of next week that’s why. Until then — in a new location. -A

Heaven Sent

It seems so warm now but believe it or not yesterday was freezing on the beach. But we did get a killer sunrise.

Teeny Tiny

January 27, 2009

I’m not sure I believe it myself but this gorgeous woman is about to have her second child in just a few weeks. If I hadn’t seen it myself I would be sceptical but she looks so fabulous. I’m continuing in my passion for extreme lens flares. That’s the glare from the sun behind this beauty. I actually do this on purpose in case anybody was wondering. I’m not sure why I love it so much at the moment but I do. Enjoy!

Twinkies

January 26, 2009

Clearly I didn’t take this image because I’m in it. But how cute are we? My daughter loves to wear dresses … me I’m more of a pants person but she saw these in a catalog and we had to have them. Then when they arrived she needed to wear hers immediately and I could only delay one day before her insistence meant that I needed to wear mine too. In case your curious they came from Hanna Andersson the catalog. My daughter is holding a flower because that’s what was in the catalog which she clipped out and saved. She studied the catalog image and then selected the location for our portrait too. There was a lot of thought that went into this moment.

My son also got an outfit which he wore right away too. But he’s not featured in this image because he is potty training and he had already peed in his shorts by the time we were ready for the photo op.

Baby makes 4

January 23, 2009

The first time I took this families portraits this big guy was still in the belly. My how time flies. Now he’s ready to be a big brother … or at least as ready as he can be at his young age.

During our last maternity session it was a nice and relaxing session with lots and lots of chatter but this time with a tot in the studio everybody noticed that I moved through things quickly. Anybody who spends time with toddlers knows that you’ve got to move quickly before they lose interest. But we had a great time and got some beautiful portraits.

Sunset

January 22, 2009

So this is straight out of the camera. The scenery isn’t much. It’s actually the roof over the facing hotel building where I was this past weekend in Port St. Lucie. Those squares are the air conditioners on the roof (which weren’t getting any use because it was freezing). I was heading out for dinner and I saw this and had to take a quick snap. I’m a sucker for a dramatic sunset for sure. I don’t know if this is related to our cold snap but if it is — it’s a good thing. Or maybe it was because I was off the East side of our state and in a better location to see a sunset. I don’t actually know but it’s a good question.

Brrrr…

January 22, 2009

So the story for today is, of course, the temperature. Here’s a picture I took this morning of my outdoor thermometer which was as low as it’s been this year. Although my husband thinks that it’s clearly broken because according to weather.com it was only 44 degrees out when I took this. Either way it was chilly.

baby it’s cold outside

Here’s hoping it warms up tomorrow. Until then – A

Is she a lawyer?

January 20, 2009

I had a visitor to the studio when I was prepping this image for the blog. He saw the image over my shoulder on the screen and asked, oh is she a lawyer? She’s not but I think she’d like to know that she looks as professional as one.

This image is from my Movers and Shakers program which provides professional headshot portraits for South Florida business owners. You can find more information on my website about it – or call and I’ll tell you all about it.

In other news, I know I missed more than two days in the photo of the day project but I was actually away celebrating my in-laws 50th anniversary. I did diligently document some great things about my trip so I’ll post those in future photo of the day posts.

Look-a-meee

January 15, 2009

I’m following a theme here – getting the kiddos out of the way perhaps. This is my son on the playground. He’s a climber and when he reaches a new height or finds something new he shouts out “lookamee momeee” which in toddlerese is mommy, look at me!

This was taken in the late afternoon. This is definitely the season for outdoor sessions because the weather is perfect and the sunset is early. I love the eager expression on his face … the caked on mac-n-cheese from lunch is hardly noticeable. I also like how he’s framed by the playset without it being too overwhelming.

Scramble

January 14, 2009

Day two and I’m on target. Like I said you may see a lot of images of my children this year. They are my favorite subjects. This is my daughter outside the Beaux Arts festival this past weekend. We parked outside the convocation center where there was this crazy circle of royal palms that were perfect for climbing a little way up.It was a beautiful day for an art show. We didn’t actually see much art. We made it in to the kid section … watched a magic show …tried to have lunch…had a dual meltdown that the only popcorn available was sweetened and headed back to the car.
