Here’s why I went to the keys.  These guys were awesome awesome. As I am a big fan of weddings, sunsets, flip flops, beaches and the Florida Keys I thought it was a great wedding. The bride is a jewelry maker and she made her necklace which you see below and the groom is a chef. He was cheffing it up after the ceremony but unfortunately I had to head back to the big city so I missed the feast. He’s opening a restaurant shortly in Pembroke Pines so I’ll be sure to check that out when it opens.

Driving

April 30, 2008

Recently I drove down to Tavernier in the Florida Keys. It was a beautiful drive and a good trip. On the way back I hit a slow down due to some traffic. There had been signs informing me of this so I wasn’t upset. But after the slowdown the traffic was a bit congested. So, I was looking forward to the passing lane. If you’ve driven to the keys you know what I’m talking about. The unofficial rules are that anybody who isn’t ready to go around a zillion miles an hour moves to the right and then the others go in the left lane and floor it trying to pass as many people as possible in this short stretch. It’s a good system.

On this occasion however some of my fellow drivers were unaware of these unofficial rules and the only person to move over was a person trailering a boat. The others all wanted to pass but were only going a moderate 65 miles an hour … so while I’m sure that was much safer than the normal zillion mph I’m used to in this passing zone … I didn’t pass as many people as I might have liked.

I was thinking about this when I read Dave Barry’s column in the Herald yesterday. If you haven’t read it … go ahead … it’s super funny.

Baby oh Baby

April 21, 2008

This little ball of love was in the studio over the weekend. She was so relaxed and fun. Just like her parents.

She did lots of great push ups during the session. She’s so strong!

This is just a preview. You’ll see more at your viewing. Thanks for looking! See you soon.

So, this week we are doing mini sessions in the studio. If you haven’t already booked your mini give us a call to see if we can fit you in.

Minis are 30 minute sessions. They are a pre-paid package with one outfit and one backdrop. They are perfect for getting the updated portrait of the kids when you’re not ready to do an all out family session.

The mini package for this week is a mini session, a 5×7 frame and a 5×7 enlargement all for $75.00 (plus tax). Call the studio at 305-668-2272 or email info@jadyimages.com to book your mini.

It was a breezy day on the beach but the sun was out and it was very pleasant.

The youngest star in this session decided immediately that it was a good day for an outdoor nap.

Here are your previews. Enjoy!

I’m an avid reader. I will read pretty much anything from a cereal box to a best-selling fiction novel, to Oprah’s latest selection and of course a good mix of self-help and business-advice books.

Now, I’m reading a special book because it was written by my brother-in-law. It’s called Death Imitating Art and it’s available on Amazon. And there you have it.  Maybe the next time he’s in town I’ll set up a book signing too.

The Oscar Project

April 10, 2008

So, here’s a cause near and dear to my heart. About a year ago a little boy named Oscar drowned in our neighborhood. He got outside on his own while his nanny was caring for his newborn sister and fell into the pool. The only thing I can say about the whole experience was that it was just terrible. He was a little younger than my daughter and it really hit home.

One of my other neighbors has taken the initiative to start a philanthropic foundation with the goal of educating nannies in both English and Spanish. It’s called The Oscar Project. We sent our caregiver to the class last year and we felt it was beneficial.

They are having what I think is their first fundraiser next week. It’s a night out at Town Kitchen and Bar which is a fun place to be for any occasion and this occasion is for a good cause.

If you’re interested get in touch with them. Maybe I’ll see you there.

Part 2 – What to wear

This section will have many sub-parts. The first is a general section.

What to wear … generally speaking
This is the most common question I get and it’s a hard one to answer actually. I don’t particularly consider myself a fashion expert although I know what I like when I see it. Also, I will say that over the years I am almost always super impressed with how fabulous my clients come ready for their sessions. I think that you’ll do a better job going through your wardrobe or shopping than I would. Nevertheless I’ll give you some basic tips.

Keep in mind that none of these are “rules” and for every suggestion I give you I could probably think of a time where a client had successfully broken that rule. So – use your own judgment.

The short answer is to wear something that you like and that you think looks good on you. You probably don’t want to wear something that you wouldn’t normally wear. Which is not to say that you should come in a sweat suit and sneakers. But if you don’t normally wear a short dress and you’re not comfortable in a short dress that discomfort will show through in your portraits.

If you’re coming into the studio I do suggest that at least one outfit includes either black shirts and jeans or white shirts and jeans.

Now here are some more general tips:

  •     Plain is better than bold patterns in most cases
  •     Wear clothes that are comfortable. During the session you’ll be standing sitting, bending and maybe even jumping or whatever we  decide to do. You don’t want to be limited by your outfit.
  •     Bring more than one outfit
  •     Jeans are great.
  •     Chinos are great.

Push Ups

April 3, 2008

This little man was in to do his upper body workout in the studio. Those pushups are the first milestone for many babies in the first year and it’s so much fun to watch them use all their strength to do it.

Of course, when I ask them to do one too many reps — this is what we get:

Okay well that one probably won’t make the album. In truth this little man was a real gem (so were his parents and grandparents) and I can’t wait to see him as he gets bigger and has more talents to show off.
